A Devil’s Advocate, working for your benefit by working against your idea #
A Critical Friend is “a trusted person who asks provocative questions, provides data to be examined through another lens, and offers critique of a person’s work as a friend. A critical friend takes the time to fully understand the context of the work presented and the outcomes that the person or group is working toward. The friend is an advocate for the success of that work.”1
Our sole provider of this service is Nick Drage. Nick has found himself taking on this role in discussions with customers, and also has a history of this approach to projects, either developing organically or through his previous work as a penetration tester. It should be stressed, as per the quotation, that “the friend is an advocate for the success of that work”.
Pre-mortem discussions #
Sessions take the format of free-form discussions looking to forestall problems, or criticisms of the work, before they can have an impact on the work’s success.
Of course this will not foresee all possible issues with your idea, but helps you reduce the likelihood of something catching you unawares.
Your next step #
This service is currently in development. Therefore if you would like a exploratory session we will accept constructive feedback as payment. Please contact us with your requirement.
